Build Update, 31 January 2018: New views from around the site
by Jo Clarke, Marketing and Communications Officer
Welcome to our first Build Update of 2018! As has become the custom, here’s the most recent footage from the web cam. It gets a bit quieter in the second half when we took a break for Christmas, but the first half is interesting to watch as you can see the concrete base being poured.
Either side of the festive period everyone on site has been working hard to make more progress. Our Assistant Director took a look around recently and the images that follow were taken by him during his visit. They offer some great vantage points from the roof and the scaffolding that we haven’t featured before.
The picture immediately below shows the new ground floor level close to completion. This particular section is where the cafe and restaurant will be located.
Here’s one from the roof on the North Hill side of the site. This gives another insight into the extent of the scaffolding as well as a great view across to the University campus and down to the city centre.
Here are two images that show how things are currently looking underneath the temporary roof.
This image shows how work is now starting to move up to the next level.
As always, our Hard Hat Tours are proving really popular and we’re very grateful to our building contractors Willmott Dixon for their assistance with these. As well as our general tours for the public they have also been running some special tours for local groups and organisations, including art and architecture students and Plymouth Dance who are pictured below.
If you haven’t yet booked for one of our Hard Hat Tours but are interested in coming along don’t leave it too late to secure your place through our online box office. Limited places are still available at 2pm on Friday 23 February and Friday 23 March.
…..and finally, on the other side of the site lots of progress is being made with St Luke’s Church. A ground floor slab has also been poured here. In addition, our bricklayers are making great strides with the block work – as you can see in these two photos which were taken just three days apart.
Thanks for reading. Keep checking our weekly posts which highlight a number of different aspects of The Box project. We’ll have another Build Update in late February.
