Volunteering is an invaluable way to help preserve the collections, improve our knowledge of them, enhance access to those collections and information, enthuse about what Plymouth holds, entertain and engage our visitors, learn something new, have fun and get involved.
Volunteering can offer you the opportunity to meet up professionally and socially with other volunteers and arts and heritage staff, add experience to your CV, get involved in something unusual or simply get out of the house.
The aim of our work is to provide excellent visitor experience, collections care and management, and to promote the service to the people of Plymouth. Volunteer projects help us to do more, reach more and offer more. We have benefited considerably from the services of volunteers over the years and wish to support and encourage volunteers.
Unfortunately we are sometimes constrained by the spaces we work in meaning that volunteers and paid staff often need to occupy the same working areas. Careful consideration is given to how many volunteers we can accept at any one time. We discuss the exact terms on any volunteering session from the outset so that both the volunteer and Plymouth Museums Galleries Archives staff respectively are clear about its duration and content.
New opportunities will be announced on this page as they arise. You can also keep an eye out on the Volunteer Connections website.
