This is a partnership exhibition between The Box, Plymouth and KARST, curated by Ben Borthwick
Visit KARST to see a series of rapid-fire exhibitions, each lasting a week, as part of the UK-wide fig-futures programme.
In Plymouth fig-futures begins with drawings, paintings and videos by British artist Suzanne Treister, whose work often looks at the relationship between technology and alternative belief systems. For week two, Austrian sculptor and installation artist Eva Grubinger presents a 3D work that explores scale, context and the maritime as a metaphor.
Architecture-inspired work by Paris-based Charlotte Moth will be displayed in week three. A new off-site installation will also be displayed in Plymouth’s iconic 1950’s market building. In week four the programme will round off with Laura Eldret, whose work often involves audience participation. She will transform the KARST gallery into a space to socially engage visitors and community groups.
Join us each week for a special launch event on Monday 18 and 25 from 6pm. Everyone is welcome! Find out more here.
At the end of the exhibition, works by each of the artists will be gifted to The Box’s permanent collections.
fig-futures is supported by Arts Council England, Art Fund and Outset and follows the major project fig-2 in which 50 projects were presented across 50 weeks at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London in 2015. During 2018-19 fig-futures has taken this one-week exhibition structure along with fig-2 alumni artists to four locations across the UK: Blackpool, Cambridge, Leicester and Plymouth.
